CNC Turning

In the process of CNC turning, the workpiece is held in a horizontally – mounted, adjustable spindle. Firstly, as the workpiece rotates, a variety of cutting tools are applied to the piece. These cutting tools are crucial for creating circular shapes and features.Turning is a process used for any shape with rotational symmetry. It is an efficient method for removing material quickly while maintaining an excellent surface finish, which in some cases may not require any additional post-processing.

Various Material Options

CNC turning is a versatile process that can machine a variety of parts from different materials. It can be used on any rigid material, offering a reliable and efficient solution for a range of manufacturing applications.

High Accuracy

CNC turning machines are capable of removing a significant volume of materials in a rapid and precise manner, while also delivering superior surface finishes.

Rapid Tooling

Truning is a versatile process that is used not only to manufacture finished parts but also to build molds for plastic injection molding and pressure die casting.

Cost-effective

Turning is highly cost-effective and almost free of waste. This makes it a more cost-effective and waste-efficient option than additive manufacturing.

Time-saving

Due to the extremely short setup time, CAD files can be converted into finished products within a few hours, offering a fast and efficient process. We are pleased to offer you samples that reach you faster.

What is CNC Turning?

CNC Turning Service

In turning, the workpiece is held in a horizontally mounted, adjustable spindle. As the workpiece rotates, various cutting tools are applied to the workpiece to create circular shapes and features such as rings, grooves, slots, contours, radii, internal holes and threads. On our lathes, an additional axis of motion allows us to work perpendicular to the lathe spindle to create square faces or bores. This opens up many new machining possibilities.

Turning is used for any rotationally symmetrical shape to remove material quickly while leaving an excellent surface finish that sometimes requires no finishing.

Why Choose CNC Turning?

CNC turning is the fastest way to remove large amounts of material from round stock. It’s also ideal for larger production runs when combined with an automatic bar feeder that provides a continuous supply of raw material to the machine.

CNC turning is the only industrial process to choose when producing high volumes of concentric shapes or threaded features. And because of the rigid construction of these machines, there is little vibration, which means that CNC turning can offer high levels of dimensional accuracy with excellent surface finishes.

How Do CNC Turning Work?

CNC lathes use a subtractive method to create the desired shape. With the G-code created, a blank bar of stock material is loaded into the chuck of the lathe’s spindle. The chuck holds the workpiece in place while the spindle rotates. When the spindle is up to speed, a stationary cutting tool is brought into contact with the workpiece to remove material until the desired geometry is achieved.

Furthermore, like CNC mills, CNC turning can be easily set up for high repeatability, which makes them great for everything from rapid prototyping to low and high-volume production.

Applications of CNC Turning

CNC can be applied to virtually any material. Consequently, this makes it ideal for rapid tooling and the creation of fixtures or molds.
CNC is a great option for prototyping because of the range of materials available. Additionally, because of the low unit cost of CNC machining. Moreover, because of the speed of production.

CNC has become the preferred technology for end-use parts because of its high-quality finish. Additionally, it has a wide range of material options. Moreover, it offers precise tolerances.

Tolerances of CNC Turning

Jingbang offers a range of CNC machining tolerances to suit your unique design requirements, including GD&T callouts, to ensure precision and accuracy. Additionally, based on the geometry of your part and the material you have selected, we can accommodate standard thread sizes, machine custom threads, and reach tolerances of up to ±0.001″. Moreover, our standard tolerances for CNC-turned metals are in accordance with ISO 2768-m, and for plastics, ISO 2768-c.
